Whether you’re a foodie, outdoor enthusiast, or art lover, Portland will not disappoint. In this guide, we’ll take you on a tour of the best that Portland has to offer. So put on your walking shoes and let’s get started!
Get Breakfast at Voodoo Doughnut.
Our first stop is breakfast at one of Portland’s many culinary gems. For a truly unique experience, head to Voodoo Doughnut. This infamous spot is known for its crazy doughnut flavors and long lines. But trust us, the wait is worth it! If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, check out Stumptown Coffee Roasters. This local favorite is the perfect place to get your caffeine fix.
Explore the Pearl District.
After breakfast, it’s time to explore Portland’s world-renowned art scene. Start at the Portland Art Museum, where you can see works by both local and international artists. Then walk through the historic Pearl District, home to galleries, shops, and restaurants. Be sure to stop by the iconic Powell’s City of Books, the largest independent bookstore in the world. It’s over 68,000 square feet and has more than 1 million books! It literally takes up an entire block. (Can you tell I’m excited? Lol.)
Go Shopping at Portland Saturday Market.
For a truly Portland experience, head to the Portland Saturday Market. This weekly market is the perfect place to find locally made arts and crafts. You’ll also find plenty of food vendors selling everything from fresh produce to delicious street food.
Visit the Rose Garden at Portland State University.
After a morning of exploring, it’s time to relax in one of Portland’s many green spaces. The Rose Garden at Portland State University is a must-see, with over 12,000 rose bushes and hundreds of different varieties. Or take a stroll through Washington Park, where you’ll find the International Rose Test Garden and the Portland Japanese Garden.
Grab a Quick Bite at Pine State Biscuits.
This local chain is known for its delicious southern-style biscuits. Be sure to try the iconic Reggie Deluxe, made with fried chicken, bacon, and cheese.
Or, you could visit one of Portland’s many food carts. With over 600 food carts to choose from, you’re sure to find something to your taste.
Explore Downtown Portland.
After a day of adventure, it’s time to explore Portland’s downtown area. Start at Pioneer Courthouse Square, the city’s “living room” and home to many events throughout the year. Then walk down to the Willamette River, where you can take in the views of the city skyline.
Check Out the Waterfalls at Columbia River Gorge.
Just a short drive from downtown Portland is the Columbia River Gorge, one of the most beautiful places and my favorite thing to do in Oregon. Here you’ll find waterfalls, hiking trails, and stunning views of the river.
Have Dinner at Le Pigeon.
Ok. I’m sure by now you have worked up an appetite. For dinner, head to Le Pigeon, one of the city’s most popular restaurants. Here you’ll find French-inspired dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
